The Great Yoga Wall series

I'm so excited that the stars aligned and I'm able to get us together again for some rejuvenating and nourishing time on The Great Yoga Wall! We'll meet for 3 Wednesdays - April 24th, May 1st and May 8th with both a 9-10:15am class and a 10:30-11:45am class. Spots are already filling so sign up for the 9am here and for the 10:30am here.

I was first introduced to the wall 6 years ago while doing a year long mentorship program in Austin, TX. In theory we were a small cohort of "Pilates teachers", but we were being guided by an amazing woman, Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle, who reminded us that movement is universal and all tools can be used to deepen our movement practice both personally and as teachers & guides. There was no confinement to the traditional pilates equipment and exercises. We used the yoga wall each morning to begin our exploration of how we relate to gravity and therefore ourselves and our environment. Through the support and feedback the wall offered I was able to feel things within myself I had never felt before, and explore moving in ways that were completely new to me. I'm so grateful I get to share this exploration with all of you.

Over the course of 3 weeks we will get curious, play with gravity, and explore our relationships with ourselves and our environment as we get to know the yoga wall and all it has to offer us. This course is open to everyone no matter your age, physical abilities, or experience. You also don't have to have a yoga practice to use the yoga wall. I will be using the wall in ways that don't look anything like yoga, and that are beneficial & supportive for all movement practices (Pilates, yoga, golfing, surfing, running, weight training, etc) The Yoga Wall is for everyone! Whether you are a beginner who has never been on the wall, or someone who has lots of experience you will have an opportunity to deepen your practice and your relationship to how you move, how you can surrender to find more freedom & ease in your entire being.

We will meet for 3 consecutive Wednesdays. April 24th, May 1st, and May 8th. There will be both a 9am class and a 10:30am class. All classes will be held at Elektren studio in Seaside, CA (here is a map if you have never been) It is $200 for all 3 sessions, and is a prepaid as a series. If there is an open space remaining I'm open to you coming in as a drop in for the dates that work for you, but you would need to reach out to me to discuss it further.

Sound Healing is one of the oldest forms and most natural forms of healing known to our planet. The power of sound can restore one’s mind, body and spirit back to a state of balance. The harmonic vibrations from Sacred Sound have a deep penetrating effect on the receiver, promoting healing and well-being. This is not just an auditory experience, during a Sound Journey it is like receiving a full body massage. Most people fall into a deep state of relaxation. It’s a portal and pathway to meditation. The sounds act as the focal point, reducing and eliminating mind chatter, leading to a release of deep rooted tensions and emotional blocks.  Many people emerge from the experience feeling lighter, more in balance, refreshed, and rejuvenated.

Deva is passionate about the transformational power of sacred sound. In 1997 while on a 4.5 month pilgrimage Deva acquired her first sacred sound tools - two Tibetan Singing Bowls and a set of tingshas. During this journey she also learned the art of meditation, most notably while studying with the Dalai Lama for ten days after the Tibetan New Year in McLeod Ganj, India. From there she has traveled and studied healing modalities in Belize, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Bali and she will be going to Egypt this December to study energy and sound!

She incorporates this kaleidoscope of cultures and wisdom into her sound journeys to create a unified field of pure awareness and healing, which leave most in a state of wonder, awe and gratitude. ✨

Deva has a certificate in Sound Healing from the Globe Institute of Sound & Consciousness in San Francisco and a Bachelors of Science in Cultural Anthropology, Biology and Art from Southern Oregon University, as well as many certifications in the healing arts.

New Moon Women's Circle

New Moon Women's Circle

Women coming together to support and guide each other has such great value as we grow and walk through this life. On the eve of the new moon we will connect through movement, mantra, meditation and sound healing as a way to create new bonds with ourselves and each other as women in this community. I am so happy to introduce you to Anushka Bogey and Melissa Shugart who will be leading this beautiful women's gathering and Kundalini experience.

Anushka is a sound healer, mantra artist and kundalini yoga practitioner. She has been practicing classical hatha yoga for 25 years and her current practice of kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan since becoming a mother twelve years ago. She began holding women’s circle around the cycles of the moon in her home three years ago to bring women together to support each other in their spiritual growth through setting intentions and the shared experience of kundalini yoga.

Anushka says, “when women gather together to elevate themselves and each other on a spiritual and energetic level, major shifts in our being can occur that lead to grace, openness, compassion, lovingkindness, authenticity, honesty, uninhibited shamelessness, self love, giving, listening, sharing, creativity, and being as one as powerful, uplifting, receptive, intuitive, creative, nurturing and loving women. My intention is to hold and share soul space for growth and evolution through the teachings of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and to bring healing through the sound current. I hope you will join me in elevating our consciousness and tuning into our divine nature together again and again.”

With a background in Kinesiology as a certified Personal Trainer and Kundalini Yoga Instructor (RYT 500), Melissa has extensive experience in studying and teaching the art of movement through understanding biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience. As a Holistic Health Practicioner, Melissa is also trained to incorporate the Healing Arts into her work, blending traditional medicine with indigenous spirituality, supporting the balance of body, heart, and soul through dance, song, toning, chanting, prayer and sound healing instruments.

As a certified Birth & Postpartum Doula, Melissa offers prenatal yoga preparation for birth, and assists Mamas with comfort measures for optimal body balance and labor progress using breathwork, movement positions, massage, rebozo, and visualization techniques.

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® is considered the most comprehensive of yoga traditions, combining meditation, mantra, physical exercises and breathing techniques; it is a Raj Yog, encompassing the eight limbs of yoga into a singular practice of excellence and ecstasy. Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® is also known as the Yoga of Awareness; its focus is on self-awareness and delivering an experience of your highest consciousness. The technology of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® is a science of the mind and body, to elevate the spirit, which has no boundaries, no discrimination. Therefore it is for everyone, universal and nondenominational.

The evening will begin at 5pm, and we will have time to connect over a cup of tea and snacks. Please bring a yoga mat, a blanket, pillow or bolsters, anything that allows you to be comfortable both for movement and for deep relaxation as we end the evening with the crystal bowls and gong for a sound healing session. We have limited space as we are a small studio, so please reserve your spot here in advance, or RSVP through the studio to let us know you will be joining us.

Awareness Through Movement

Awareness Through Movement

A day long exploration for anyone who wants to deepen their movement practice.

Our lives can be full of distractions that cause us to loose connection with ourselves, our loved ones and our environment. I would like to offer you an opportunity to slow down, drop in and reconnect.

In this day long retreat we will explore how the way we move influences our relationship with ourselves and the world around us. How we can allow ourselves to be supported from within, by others and by our environment. We will embark on a non-judgemental exploration, enter into a conversation with our bodies and each other in order to deepen and expand our awareness through movement.

The day will include:

  • seated and walking meditation to drop us into a deeper place of listening, allowing us to become more aware of subtle sensations in the body

  • play time outdoors to connect with nature and explore our relationship with our environment

  • time on the mat using props and each other to deepen our understanding of core as relationship versus a specific place or thing in the body

  • time to explore some of the Pilates mat repertoire, and how it can support all of our movement practices (yoga, hiking, surfing, you name it!)

  • a chance to share with each other what we're curious about and reflect on what we discovered over the course of the day

This workshop is designed for our whole community including Pilates, yoga and other movement teachers. So if you have a friend, or a teacher from another studio who you believe would benefit from this exploration please share this with them!

Living Life Intentionally - Cultivating Healthy States of Mind

Living Life Intentionally - Cultivating Healthy States of Mind

"Though I do not believe a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders."

Henry D. Thoreau's Faith in a Seed

It is the New Year. We all know about New Year’s resolutions and how short-lived they can be... so the invitation for this time together is to take this new beginning as an opportunity to look closely at how we have been living our lives. What if we just had just one more year to live? Would we be spending our time in the same way? Seeing the same people? Same job? Relationship?

During this time together we will mediate, explore and reflect on what really matters. Considering what are the seeds we want to plant and nourish longer term so life can be more fulfilling and aligned with our own truth, our own life.

Becoming aware of intention is the key to awakening in moment-to-moment practice. A long-term intention is also called a vow or dedication. Setting a long-term intention is like setting the compass of our heart. No matter how rough the storms, how difficult the terrain, even if we have to backtrack around obstacles, our direction is clear. The fruits of dedication are visible in the best of human endeavors.

The obvious question for all of us, as we engage in the practice of Insight Meditation, is how in fact does the practice of mindfulness - that is feeling the body, feeling the breath, observing thought - actually lead to liberation? How does it all work?

This question is particularly relevant now given the widespread teachings of mindfulness where liberation is not the stated goal. The practice is not generally thought of in the context of awakening. We want to understand how it leads to the highest goal, the highest potential. Mindfulness is not an end in itself, but a methodology...awareness is not enough!

During this evening Isabel will offer a talk on this topic, and together we will sit and practice to explore what we do learn from being mindful.

*No previous experience in meditation is required. All levels are welcome! $30 donation

Insight Meditation and The 4 Foundations of Mindfulness with Isabel Fleury

The Buddha is very clear that the primary aim of all his teachings is "the end of suffering".  The roots of suffering are within us and the method of eliminating suffering is within us as well.

When we practice mindfulness we follow the Buddha's example and look inside. As anyone who tries mindfulness practice quickly discovers, the more aware we are of our actions, feelings, thoughts, and perceptions that give rise to them the more insight we have into why we are doing what we are doing. Mindfulness helps us to recognize that beneficial actions bring peace of mind and happiness in our every day lives, while actions based on hatred, delusion and greed makes us miserable and anxious.

In this series we will be covering  the teachings on the Four Foundations from a teaching talk given by the Buddha known as the Satipatthana Sutta, containing the underlying principles of mindfulness practice.

The practice of contemplating (or meditating if you prefer) on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness  - mindfulness of the body, feelings, mind and dhammas (or phenomena) is recommended in every step of the spiritual path. In each week we will explore one of the foundations:

Week 1: Mindfulness of the body: breath, four postures, reflections of the body parts

Week 2: Mindfulness of feelings: pleasant, unpleasant and neutral, worldly or spiritual

Week 3: Mindfulness of Mind: understanding the states of mind, aware of its manifestation, origin and disappearance.

Week 4: Mindfulness of Dhammas: 5 hindrances, the 7 factors of enlightenment, the 4 noble truths, the noble 8 fold path Insight meditation, is the practice of continued close attention to sensation, through which one ultimately sees the true nature of existence. It is believed to be the form of meditation practice taught by the Buddha himself, and although the specific form of the practice may vary, it is the basis of all traditions of Buddhist meditation.

* No previous experience in meditation is required. All levels welcome!

We will meet on 4 consecutive Thursday evenings from 7-830pm, and it is $120 for all 4 weeks.

Archetypal Astrology: A Self Exploration Journey with Isabel Fleury

Join Isabel for a journey into the deeper understanding of this moment in time, and how to participate and co-create with it all in a healthy and skillful way. We will use the astrology symbols to understand the collective and individual mind and life now.

The astrological chart can be seen as a description of the way we are likely to process experience and see the world. We can use it as a tool to bring clarity, and to contact who we really are in essence therefore supporting wholeness to arise. It offers the opportunity to become more aware of how we tend to relate and react/respond to our inner and outer world and reality itself. This then fosters more awareness of our attitudes and their ripples into the world. In every moment we can choose to respond skillfully to what happens, growing closer and closer to being wiser and healthier... growing closer and closer to being a whole person. This is an avenue open to everybody!

In this class we will take some time to meditate together. Then we will look specifically at understanding more of the Uranus - Pluto - Jupiter archetypal complex, and how this combination, a rare one, manifests in the world and in our personal lives. As we have more clarity we can choose practical and helpful ways to bring those principles into our daily lives, being in service of the greater good and this compassionate universe.

This workshop is $30 and no previous experience is needed

* 20% discount will be given to all the participants that have interest in scheduling a private session or a package of sessions.

Meditation Practice Group with Isabel Fleury

It is thought that whatever your personal history, whatever your story, whatever you may have gone through or might yet go through there is a capacity within everybody that can never ever be broken. It may be and is usually covered over and disguised, or hard to find and often hard to trust. If we look deeply enough inside we can discover this capacity, this wisdom, this ability to understand your life, to love, to connect and be free.

Meditation in the pali language, the one of the buddhist texts, is bhavana or cultivation. This means we all can cultivate the grounds so the qualities we want more in our lives can emerge. Qualities like clarity, patience, presence and so on. Like we take care of the body by feeding it well, exercising, and getting enough sleep so the health of our immune system can be strengthened making us less vulnerable to illness, meditation supports the strength of the mind's immune system. It creates a healthy disposition of the mind, so it will be less susceptible to negative thoughts and feelings giving us a deeper sense of peace and ease in our lives.

Come explore the benefits of a meditation practice with the support of a sangha or community. This began as a 4 week series and has become a regular Thursday evening gathering led by Isabel Fleury. We focus on the practice of insight or mindfulness meditation with a brief check in and talk about what the focus of the evening will be. Each evening is from 7-8pm, with the majority of the hour spent in guided meditation.. Each session is $15 paid directly to the lovely Isabel, or if you have a mat class package with the studio you may use that as well. This is open to all in the community, so even if you're not interested in Pilates or yoga feel free to join us and spread the word to family or friends who may be interested!
